Earths

900# of concrete each. These are on the campus of Forest Park Community College in Saint Louis.

These earths were made on “Earth Day”s in the early 1990s. White waterproof cement, colored man made sands and concrete dyes.

“I tried to make it Black and White but everything is grey.” It is 900# of concrete that used to be covered with money- $200. of paper and coins. Of course, it was immediately raped.

“People leave a lot behind”. This concrete earth is filled with trash. I was cleaning out a vacant apartment and had bags of trash I decided to recycle as ART!

“When MOM and DAD are gone, there is a void in this earth.” Two views of the same earth. One side says “DAD” and the other “MOM”. Originally the words were filled with 3” diameter logs of clay and the words were joined to each other with clay. The A in DAD was linked via clay to the O in MOM. Same with the other letters. After 25 years you can literally see through the earth. There is a void. My goal is to finally bring this piece from the country where all the earths (10) were made over 5 or so years, Mount it on a 2” stainless pipe that is sunk in the ground and that has a ball bearing on top. The pipe has been fabricated. The earths have recessed 2” pipe on the bottom that will fit over the pipe and bearing mounted in the ground and this will allow the earth to rest near the ground and rotate when spun by hand. Finally I will pack the voids with soil and plant wild flowers. I can easily water and rotate the earth for the sun.. MOM and DAD will spring to life again!
